Kris Shewmake, M.D., FACS
Since 1996, Kris Shewmake, MD has been transforming the lives of his patients by helping them to achieve a more youthful, rested, natural, appearance in his private practice. Every face that comes through the doors of Shewmake Plastic Surgery is more than a patient—they’re an individual seeking renewed confidence, and Dr. Shewmake has made it his life’s work to help them achieve that. His extensive experience with cranial and facial surgeries, including on infants with birth deformities, has allowed him to hone his skills for facial reconstructive surgeries and offer his clients the chance to look as young as they feel.
After receiving his medical degree from the University of Arkansas Medical Center, where he was president of his class and a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, Dr. Shewmake spent eight years in surgical training, including a General Surgery residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Medical Center, and a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery residency at the University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
From there, Dr. Shewmake spent an additional year at UCLA working with children and adults affected by facial birth deformities. Upon completion of his fellowship in 1992, Dr. Shewmake returned to his native state and served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at UAMS and Arkansas Children’s Hospital before opening Shewmake Plastic Surgery in 1996.
Dr. Shewmake is married, a father of five children, and active in his church. He served as co-founder of the mission team Operation New Life and has led surgical teams to serve the poor in Honduras and to teach in the medical school there. He is an avid airplane and helicopter pilot and enjoys shooting, woodworking, and restoring cars when he can find a bit of spare time.
The Best of the Best
Dr. Shewmake is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of many respected professional associations, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and the Arkansas Medical Society. He is one of only two plastic surgeons in Arkansas to become a member of an elite group of plastic surgeons known as the Association of Plastic Surgeons.
Dr. Shewmake has presented and published numerous scientific papers on Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He continues his education by participating in national conferences and courses covering the latest techniques in aesthetic, plastic, and reconstructive surgery.
